Hi Guys,
Rugby date 16/01/10 home against Tarleton 2's postponed
Well it was a disappointment again this weekend, with the thaw coming to late for us to get out and have a game. However the thaw is now setting in and as the weather warms up so should we. I would like to thank the brave souls that braved the conditions to train last Thursday. And hope that we can get another good turnout this week, ready for this coming Saturdays away fixture against Thornton Cleveleys. We put in a good performance against Thornton when they travelled to us, earlier in the season. However they have gone on from then and are currently 3rd in the league. While we sadly languish at the bottom in 12th, Thornton have played 14 won 9 lost 4 and conceded 1. We have played 11 won 3 lost 7 conceded 1. So it us that have to put in the effort this weekend. Thornton managed to play this week beating BAE 20 -7, and so they will be boosted by the good start to their new year.
And so if we intend to get this year off to a good start ourselves, we need to get plenty of players available, to give us the strongest possible chance. So availability as soon as possible please, to either myself or P.G. And lets get plenty of numbers down training this Thursday giving us chance to run of some of the rust, that has set in with the lengthy lay off. As a little incentive to all to come training, it has been deemed that players present at training this week and playing on Saturday will be entitled to a Kitty round. Whhhooooo. I know so generous aren't we. But in all seriousness it has been a while since we last played, and I would like to start the year off well. So it is important we get stretched off and warmed up, and go into the game giving ourselves the best chance of a win. And start getting our season on track.
Away from the rugger, this Saturday night our second row beanpole Tiny Turner, is celebrating his coming of age (21). And is hosting a function at the cricket club? He has kindly sent an open invite to all his team mates in the thirds, and it would be nice to be well represented at the function, so get those passes signed please gents. Also your team management has put together a intended sponsored walk, to raise funds for Help for heroes, and a new team strip for next season. The intended date is Saturday 5th June, and we will be walking the Yorkshire three peaks. This is a 26 mile walk, taking in the peaks of Pen-y-Ghent, Whernside and Ingleborough. we aim to raise £2000 with a 50/50 split on all monies raised. It will be good team building and give us a chance to show our support for the brave lads serving abroad in our armed forces. We will be having some sponsor sheets printed up soon and would appreciate good support of this venture. I will keep you all up dated on all developments regarding this, but we are going to get the ball polling soon so as to give everyone involved chance to raise as much cash as possible.
Regards Carlos(captain).
